Supersalud had a meeting with the prisoners of Buen Pastor in Bogotá about the situation in the prison

At the end of this week the The Superintendent of Health, Luis Carlos Leala meeting was held with women who are taking their freedom from the Pastor El Bueno penitent in Bogotá to learn about health problems inside the prison.

The meeting was called “Dialogue with Super Health”, which includes more than 100 internal, who represented the 1,800 people from this prison centre.

The director of that prison, Myriam Helena Calle Garcíaexpressed in this space that “a Superintendent of Health is a very valuable opportunity to be so close and in possession of our health problems to point out all the inconveniences that arise in medical care.”

During the interventions of the women in prison, it was revealed that one of the most recurring complaints is the lack of opportunities to assign medical consultation appointmentsbecause of the limitations and conditions in which they are found.

Similarly, they also expressed the difficulty in accessing medicinesthe mental health care services and the fhigh opportunity in the provision of services with a gender perspective in health promotion and prevention.

In this regard, Luis Carlos Leal expressed that “we have done a very enriching exercise, which contributes greatly to this goal of right to protect people’s health and to ensure that health resources, which are few, can be used in an appropriate, efficient way and that they will benefit everyone.”

In the meantime, a service day was held for users, with representatives of the health promotion entities (EPS), who attended together with the Supersalud team on the 85 cases that were presented and resolved.

Details of the National Institute of Prisons and Prisons (Inpec) to indicate that the population of women enjoying freedom is 12,908, as it is 6,433 are imprisoned in the country’s prisons. Of these, 1,792 have been accused and 4,641 have been convicted and are serving their sentence for a crime.

Meanwhile, overcrowding in women’s prisons is 2.04%, a result of the difference between prisoners and prison capacity of 129 people.
