Cristiano Ronaldo and Al-Nassr lose the final of the Saudi Super Cup. However, an action by the Portuguese player causes a stir.
Cristiano Ronaldo, Al-Nassr and football in Saudi Arabia – it doesn’t seem like it’s going to be a great love story. The Portuguese superstar has already attracted attention in the past with obscene gestures towards fans (read more about that here), and the 39-year-old has also repeatedly been the target of provocative shouts from fans.
Now the next incident involving “CR7” has occurred: In the 1:4 defeat in the Saudi Super Cup against Al-Hilal, Ronaldo scored in the 44th minute to give his club a temporary 1:0 lead, but then had to watch as his team squandered the lead and ultimately lost by a large margin.
Much to Ronaldo’s frustration, videos circulating on X show the attacker mocking his own teammates. He first laid his head sideways on his folded hands to show that his teammates were asleep.
Then he also indicated by grabbing his pants that his teammates were probably “scared”. Ronaldo did not collect the silver medal after the lost Supercup match either, instead he is said to have disappeared from the stadium early.
The opposing fans, in turn, provoked Ronaldo with shouts of “Messi” – which had already led to his obscene gesture in February. At that time, the five-time world footballer was banned for one match and had to pay a fine of 30,000 Saudi riyals (around 7,250 euros). It is still unclear whether there will be further sanctions for his derogatory gestures from the league or within the team.
