In response to the severe flooding and landslides that affected the parish of Oyacachi, in Napo, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG) has provided support to local producers. One thousand kilos of silage were distributed to feed livestock affected by the shortage of pastures, a result of the intense rainfall last weekend.

The Napo District Director, Daniela Jurado, emphasized the importance of this food supplement to maintain the nutrition of cattle in times of crisis. In addition to silage, technical assistance was provided to 39 producers, benefiting 179 cattle, 11 pigs and three sheep. This effort was possible thanks to the collaboration of four MAG brigades, made up of 14 specialized technicians.

Efforts were not limited to providing food: farmers also received vitamin treatments and assistance with vaccinations, measures aimed at mitigating the adverse effects of extreme weather on livestock.

Gilberto Aigaje, president of the Oyacachi Cattle Ranchers Association, expressed his gratitude to the authorities and technicians for their rapid response to the natural disaster, highlighting the positive impact of the aid received.

In addition, in coordination with various entities such as the Decentralized Autonomous Government of Oyacachi, the Prefecture of Napo, BanEcuador and the Ministry of Production, Foreign Trade, Investments and Fisheries, a survey of information was carried out to establish an accurate diagnosis and take effective inter-institutional measures to support the affected producers.

The economic activities of the Oyacachi community, focused on livestock farming, cheese production, wood crafts, tourism and fish farming, have been crucially supported during this critical period.
