Support for press companies and the 78th UN General Assembly, on the menu of Burkinabè daily newspapers

Ouagadougou, September 22, 2023 (AIB) – Burkinabè dailies this Friday echo the dengue epidemic in the Hauts Bassins region, the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly and the 3rd edition of the Eco Media initiative, the aim of which is to support press companies.

“Call for projects for the production of media content dedicated to the economy: the 3rd edition of +Eco Medias+ launched”, headlines the private newspaper Le Quotidien, reporting that the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Burkina Faso (CCI-BF ) launched, yesterday Thursday in Ouagadougou, the 3rd edition of the Eco Media initiative.

On this subject, L’Express du Faso, a private daily published in Bobo-Dioulasso, displays: “Ecomédias 2023: Ten projects will be selected for 50 million CFA francs”, while the national daily Sidwaya displays: “Third edition of the Eco Media initiative: 50 million FCFA planned for the ten best projects”, where

The newspaper cited secondly indicates that Eco Médias was initiated to support press companies, with a view to producing content dedicated to the economy, finances and the promotion of the private sector in Burkina Faso.

For his part, the dean of Burkina Faso’s private daily newspapers, L’Observateur Paalga reports that Eco Médias 2023, according to Mahamadi Sanoh, vice-president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Burkina Faso, concerns exclusively the legally constituted and established media in Burkina Faso in accordance with the texts in force.

The same newspaper, through its ”Look at current events”, addresses the 78th General Assembly of the United Nations, under the title: “Cacophony to carry the voice of Niger”.

According to L’Observateur Paalga, the Nigerien delegation, led by Yaou Sangaré Bakary, the new Minister of Foreign Affairs after the July 26 coup, was less fortunate than that of Guinea.

“In fact, his speech was canceled this Thursday following opposition from Hassoumi Massaoudi, previously Minister of Foreign Affairs of Niger under the ousted president, Mohamed Bazoum. Hassouni Massaoudi thus took advantage of the title of legitimate representative of his country, the UN not recognizing the change of regime that recently occurred in Niamey,” reports the newspaper.

And to add that “this was enough for the general secretariat of the organization to refuse to speak to Yaou Sangaré Bakary, the new Minister of Foreign Affairs of Niger, even if he had had access to the glass palace and his accreditation as permanent representative of his country to the UN remains valid.

On the same subject, the private daily Le Pays writes: “78th session of the United Nations General Assembly: the open debate in the presence of the Minister of State, Bassolma Bazié”.

The newspaper indicates that the general debate of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly opened on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, in New York, in the United States of America.

According to Le Pays, the Burkina Faso delegation led by the Minister of State, Minister of Civil Service, Labor and Social Protection, Bassolma Bazié, is participating in this meeting of the United Nations.

He specifies that the Minister of State representing His Excellency the President of the Transition, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, will deliver Burkina Faso’s declaration this Saturday.

According to him, the Minister of State will grant audiences to personalities including the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres.

Under another section, Le Pays headlines: “Dengue epidemic in Hauts-Bassins: 6703 suspected cases and 2494 probable cases recorded”.

The newspaper informs that like other localities in the country, the Hauts-Bassins region is facing a dengue epidemic. According to regional health authorities, this disease is recording a drop in the number of cases testing positive, according to the latest updated statistics.

According to the daily, 6,703 suspected cases, 2,494 probable cases, 422 hospitalized cases and 10 cases under observation, such is the assessment of the epidemic as of September 19, 2023 in the region.
