Supreme Court Adjourns Hearing on EPS Case

The Supreme Court has adjourned the hearing on the petition filed by the Tamil Nadu Director of Corruption and Corruption (DVAC) challenging the Madras High Court order. The order had barred the Tamil Nadu government from ordering a fresh trial in the case involving former Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami (EPS).

The DMK government has accused EPS of being involved in the Highway Tender Scam Case. A bench comprising Justices Aniruddha Bose and Bela M Trivedi heard the Special Leave Petition of the Anti-Corruption Directorate against the High Court verdict dismissing the petition seeking an inquiry into the former chief minister’s role in the corruption case.

EPS served as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu from 2017-2021. He has been accused of awarding contracts in the highways sector on a discretionary basis during his tenure, despite having been cleared of suspicions after an investigation by DVAC.

The recent order by the DMK-led government for a fresh trial was heavily criticized by the High Court, which deemed it politically motivated. The controversy surrounding the case has led to protests, with EPS’s side objecting to Kapil Sibal appearing on behalf of the Tamil Nadu government during the recent hearing.

The case is now scheduled to be listed for the next week. In the meantime, the public eagerly awaits the Supreme Court’s decision on the petition, which could have far-reaching implications for the former chief minister and the Tamil Nadu government.
