The Supreme Court has issued a notice to the Delhi Police in the hate speech case. This case is related to Union Minister Anurag Thakur and BJP MP Parvesh Verma in 2020. According to livelaw, CPM leader Brinda Karat has filed an SLP in the Supreme Court demanding registration of an FIR against Anurag Thakur and Verma. He says that the Delhi Police has not registered an FIR in this regard, so it should be directed. Earlier, the Delhi High Court rejected Brinda Karat’s plea, then she approached the Supreme Court.
According to Livelaw, a bench of Justices KM Joseph and BV Nagaratna issued a notice to the Delhi Police and sought a reply within three weeks. During the hearing, the bench observed that the prima facie observation of the magistrate that approval was required for registration of FIR against the two leaders was not correct, according to iveLaw, senior advocate Siddharthala Aggarwal, appearing for the CPM leader. Pishhoya, told the Supreme Court that the Election Commission had taken action against both of them and stopped them from campaigning for a few hours. But over the next few days, the ‘shoot’ rhetoric turned into actual action. The senior counsel also argued that the Delhi High Court in a proceeding had adversely commented on these speeches. But the magistrate still refused to order registration of FIR due to lack of approval.
