The leader of the Arauco Malleco Coordinator (CAM), Hector Llaitul, received a harsh judicial slap in the face from the Supreme Courtwho decided this Monday reject the appeal for annulment presented by the defense of the Mapuche community member.
Llaitul was sentenced to 23 years in prison after his guilt was proven in the completed crimes of theft of wood, attack against authority y violent usurpation of land within the framework of the State Security Law.

In detail, the leader of the Coordinadora Arauco Malleco (CAM) was sentenced to 15 years for the committed and repeated crime against public orderwithin the framework of the State Security Law, in addition to another five years for theft of wood and three more years as the perpetrator of the crime of attack against authority.
Likewise, it was also applied a fine of 15 UTM (just over 960 thousand pesos).
In this way, the subject must serve the entirety of his sentence in prison, after the Supreme Court justices rejected the request submitted by his defense.
Hector Llaitul’s hunger strike in prison
Prior to the Supreme Court’s decision, Héctor Llaitul began a hunger strike inside the prison Bío Bío, the facility where he is being held.
