The Vegas series “Hacks” about an aging stand-up comedian surprisingly won the award for Best Comedy Series at the Emmy Awards in Los Angeles. Previously, Jean Smart had already received the award for Best Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. She plays comedian Deborah Vance in “Hacks,” whose long-running show in Las Vegas is being canceled, and she fights for a comeback alongside younger writer Ava Daniels.
The favorite in this premier category of the Emmys was actually the restaurant series “The Bear: King of the Kitchen,” which won awards in categories including Best Lead Actor for Jeremy Allen White and Best Supporting Actor for Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Liza Colón-Zayas. The Emmys recognize the best series, shows, and television movies on U.S. television and streaming.
