During the Corona years 2020 and 2021, many people in Germany spent their holidays in Germany. According to a survey, more people are now moving abroad again.

Munich.

After two years of the corona pandemic, there are signs that holiday habits are returning to normal: unlike in 2020 and 2021, many citizens are moving abroad again.

That’s according to a Yougov poll published on Wednesday. The client was the Bavarian leisure clothing manufacturer Schöffel in Schwabmünchen.

According to this, 34 percent of the 2029 respondents want to spend their holidays in Europe, 10 percent in non-European countries. A total of 48 percent replied that they wanted to spend their main vacation in their own home region or at least in Germany. The survey was therefore representative, but according to Schöffel, only “outdoor enthusiasts” were asked – i.e. people who hike, cycle or otherwise like to exercise in the fresh air.

The Yougov pollsters asked in March, after the start of the Russian attack on Ukraine. The previous survey a year ago gave a completely different picture: At that time, almost two-thirds said that they wanted to vacation in their own home region or in Germany. Accordingly, many German holiday regions were fully booked last summer.

According to the survey, a much-commented trend of the two Corona years could have become permanently established: 24 percent replied that they still hiked more often or did other outdoor sports than before the pandemic began. 15 percent, on the other hand, have even reduced their outdoor activities.
