BOLZANO. The “Italian School System” questionnaire is an evaluation/self-evaluation process that highlights some key points of the South Tyrolean school system such as, for example, timetable management, flexibility, synergy with the territory and respect for learning times .
The vice-president of the Province and councilor for Italian Education and Training Marco Galateo, together with the Superintendent Vincenzo Gullotta, illustrated the results of the survey. “I wanted to explore the many opinions about some possible interventions on school organization and draw valid ideas with which to present myself at the technical tables, for the development of alternative proposals”, began vice-president Galateo. “The results, in addition to underlining the usefulness of many good practices present in Italian language schools, highlight a picture of the situation in line with the decisions taken so far”, explained Galateo.
7,791 users took part in the survey, including school staff, families, students of secondary schools. The majority (66%) shows opposition or indifference to the unification of the school timetable. Over 62% are in favor of a very broad and flexible school entry time range. The majority of families (80%) consider the offer of full-time and extended time to be very or quite important. “We are going in the right direction,” commented Superintendent Vincenzo Gullotta. “Our objective continues to be that of an innovative, inclusive school capable of welcoming the requests of our main stakeholders, while always putting the well-being of our children at the centre.”
The data collected shows some differences in the vision of the three groups of recipients on the school calendar. The interruption of lessons at the beginning of November saw almost the majority of participants in favor of maintaining the current calendar (with a peak of 71% among school staff, 62% among students, while families settled at 40%). Just over 50% of families and students are in favor of postponing the start of lessons to mid-September, while almost 60% of school staff are in favor or indifferent to keeping it on the current date of September 5th.
“Following these results, I met with the members of the provincial council of parents and students, since some answers did not allow us to better explain the consequences of any changes to the school calendar”, added vice-president Galateo. “After these moments of comparison, the differences between the various percentages have been considerably limited; the preferences expressed cannot lead to their immediate application, but will be very useful for evaluating which future educational and organizational strategies to implement in everyone’s interest”, explained the Italian Education and Training Councilor.
