According to a survey by the German Travel Association (DRV), travel agencies and operators can look positively towards the summer season.

The German travel agencies and tour operators expect strong summer business for the coming year. The German Travel Association (DRV) reported from a survey of its members that more than half of all current bookings will be made in the coming summer months.

However, only every tenth company is expecting summer sales at or above the level of the pre-Corona year 2019. For the full year 2022, only every 20th respondent expects to reach the pre-crisis level again. 43 percent expect this in the following year and 37 percent think they will have to wait until 2024.

A majority of 54 percent consider further financial aid from politicians to be necessary beyond March 2022 in order to secure the economic existence. The main reason for this is the uncertainty surrounding the new Omikron corona variant. “The new federal government should therefore, in addition to targeted measures, sharpen and extend the necessary assistance for the industry as soon as possible,” said DRV President Norbert Fiebig, according to a statement.

According to the DRV, the industry comprises around 10,000 travel agencies and 2,500 tour operators. 550 companies in the travel industry took part in the survey in mid-December.
