Surya, who played the protagonist in the film, which is based on the life of Rajakannu, a tribal man who died in police torture, paid Rs. He has said that he will make a deposit of Rs 10 lakh.
Starring Surya, Manikandan and actress Lijomol, Gnanavell directed ‘Jaybeam’ which was released live last week (November 2) on ODT.
‘Jaybeam’ was produced based on the fact that power exerts its oppression on the tribal people and how they face it through legal struggle.
The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu M.K. While praising Stalin recently, the state secretary of the Communist Party of India Balakrishnan praised the film ‘Jaybeam’ and sent a letter to actor Surya with a request and shared it on the social media page.
In the letter, the director and crew were praised for filming the actual incident without diluting it.
He also said that justice and relief in the Rajakannu case was due to the ongoing legal battle waged by the Marxist party.
He went on to say that the film’s nucleus has gone beyond criticism and at the end of the letter he has called for help to the economically impoverished Parvati and the oppressed like them.
Actor Surya has now responded to Balakrishnan’s request on his official Twitter page.
In the letter he shared, Surya stated that he would prioritize the contribution of the communist movement as much as possible and announced that he would make a deposit of Rs 10 lakh to help Parvathy Ammal in her old age.
Parvati Ammal can receive the interest from it every month and her heirs can get it after her.
He also said that they are considering helping the educational opportunities of the students of the tribal community.
Many on social media have been expressing their appreciation for actor Surya’s announcement.
Earlier, actor Raghav Lawrence, who said he was shocked and hurt after seeing Rajakannu’s atrocities in the film, had also posted a notice on his social media page saying that he would definitely give a house to his wife Parvathi.
ControversyAnd chatter
Meanwhile, while the gist of the film has been talked about by many, some of the scenes featured in the film are also controversial.
* What controversy? *
Prakashraj would have played the role of IG Perumalsamy in the film. In this case, when the person from North India involved in the trial is interrogated, he will speak in Hindi instead of Tamil, the language known to both of them, in order to escape from it.
For that Prakashraj slaps him on the cheek and forces him to speak in Tamil. Hindi supporters protested the show and it became a trend on social media.
In a recent interview with BBC Tamil, director Gnanavel said that the nature of the character was not intended to annoy Hindi supporters except that he was only there to speak in order to divert the case.
Also, there was controversy that another police character in the story had changed his real name from Anthony Sami to Kurusami and that in one scene he had a picture with a specific caste identity on the house calendar. This was followed by a correction to that ‘calendar view’ in the image.
Following this, actor Surya responded to the controversy by posting a letter to Anbumani Surya on his official Twitter page, saying, ‘Do not shrink the name into politics and dilute the essence of the film.’
