Suspect Arrested in Fatal Stabbing of Man on Metro Train in Downtown Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES – A suspect has been arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing of a man aboard a Metro train in downtown Los Angeles. The suspect, identified as Randy Nash, was apprehended on Saturday around 9:13 p.m. in the 1000 block of W. 85th Street in South L.A., according to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).

Nash, 31, has been booked on suspicion of murder and his bail has been set at $2 million. The stabbing incident occurred on Thursday at approximately 5:20 p.m. while both the suspect and victim, identified as Jesse Rodriguez, were on board the subway train.

According to a statement released by the LAPD on Friday, the suspect abruptly pulled out a knife and without any warning or provocation, stabbed Rodriguez in the upper torso. Transit Services Division officers who were present at the Pershing Square Station immediately provided aid to Rodriguez until paramedics arrived at the scene.

Tragically, despite efforts to save his life, Rodriguez succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

A photo of the suspect was released by the police during their search. Following the incident, security measures were heightened in response to the stabbing. Additional LAPD officers have been deployed to patrol the stations and ride the trains throughout the weekend.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear at this time, and investigators are continuing their efforts to gather more information about the incident.

The community has expressed shock and grief over the senseless act of violence, and many are calling for increased safety measures on public transportation to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
