The public prosecutor’s office in Braunschweig has filed charges against a man who is a suspect in the “Maddie” case. However, these are other actions.

DThe public prosecutor’s office in Braunschweig filed charges against the German suspect in the “Maddie” case on Tuesday after a long investigation. However, the charges against Christian B. do not relate to the disappearance of the three-year-old British woman from a hotel complex on Portugal’s Algarve coast in May 2007, but to other alleged crimes. The investigators accuse Christian B. of three cases of rape and two cases of sexual abuse of children. The 45-year-old defendant is currently serving a seven-year prison sentence.

At the end of 2019, the Braunschweig Regional Court convicted him of raping a 72-year-old American woman in the Algarve in 2005. Video recordings of two other cases that have parallels to this act and are now being charged were also discussed in the process. On the one hand, it is about a crime against a 70 to 80 year old woman who was also surprised, tied up, raped and beaten in her holiday apartment in Portugal. On the other hand, it is about the rape of a previously unknown German-speaking youth who was tied up, beaten and sexually abused in Portugal. In the third rape case, however, the victim is known: In this case, it is about a 20-year-old woman from Ireland who was attacked, tied up and raped in her holiday home in June 2004. This act is also said to have been filmed.

The two allegations of sexual abuse of children also relate to acts in Portugal. Christian B. is said to have ambushed a ten-year-old girl from Germany naked there in 2007. In 2017, Christian B. is said to have molested an 11-year-old Portuguese girl; after the crime he was arrested on the spot. The indictment is more than 100 pages. The investigation into Madeleine McCann’s disappearance continues.
