Suspected Case of Hepatitis A Reported at Pine Knob Music Theatre
The Oakland County Health Division has recently announced a suspected case of hepatitis A at the Pine Knob Music Theatre in Clarkston. The incident specifically occurred at the Ivy Lounge at Pine Knob, prompting the Health Division to issue an advisory to all season members, guests, and staff who consumed food at the Ivy Lounge between August 26 and September 8.
Individuals who fall within this category are advised to monitor themselves for symptoms and, if they have not been vaccinated against hepatitis A, to seek vaccination as soon as possible. While the risk of transmission in this particular situation is considered low, Dr. Russell Faust, the Oakland County medical director, emphasized the importance of vaccination. “The vaccine can prevent the disease if given within 14 days after exposure,” he stated.
Those who were possibly exposed to hepatitis A between September 1-8 at the Ivy Lounge are strongly encouraged to receive the vaccine within the 14-day deadline. Depending on the date of exposure, the recommended actions are as follows:
– August 26, 29; September 1: Monitor for symptoms.
– September 2: Get the vaccine by Saturday.
– September 3: Get the vaccine by Sunday.
– September 5: Get the vaccine by Monday.
– September 6: Get the vaccine by Tuesday.
– September 8: Get the vaccine by Thursday.
To address the urgent need for vaccinations, the Health Division has organized two special hepatitis A vaccine clinics. These clinics will take place from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday and Sunday at the North Oakland Health Center, located at 1200 N. Telegraph Rd., Building 34E, Pontiac. No registration is required for these clinics.
Hepatitis A is a viral infection that primarily affects the liver. Symptoms typically include sudden abdominal pain, fatigue, diarrhea, nausea, headache, dark urine, and vomiting.
