by time news

The low cost Viva announced this Thursday that due to the difficult situation the airline is going through, it suspended operations to and from the city of Cali, the third most important capital in Colombia.

Thus, the airline stops operating 17 weekly flights in Cali, reducing the beach destinations that operated from the city in; 5% Cartagena, 10% Santa Marta and 20% San Andrés.

According to the company, it is currently going through a difficult situation due to external macroeconomic factors and the lack of capital injection by an investor to ensure financial support. In this way, Viva cannot assume the cost overruns caused by the exchange rate, inflation or the price of fuels.

The effects caused by this decision go beyond the lack of air connectivity, according to the company, the bad moment of its finances also affects the economy of certain destinations such as San Andrés, where Viva reduced its offer by 50% last year. . In this way, the tourist chain is affected by the reduction of its air operations.

Finally, the company called for a definition by the Colombian Civil Aeronautics and the National Government for the approval of the alliance that it is currently seeking with Avianca and which, according to Viva in a statement, would turn the difficult moment around of the airline.

The suspension of flights will take effect on February 6 and passengers who already have tickets for flights after this date will be allowed to change their destination or will be given a voucher.
