Suspension of demolition of the Tloupa house

by time news

The fate of the detached house in the center of Larissa where the Tloupa brothers, the photographer, lived Takis Tloupas (1920-2003) and the sculptor Filolaos Tloupas (1923-2010)will be judged in the coming days. The recent publication of “K” had highlighted the danger of the demolition of this historic house (particularly important for the cultural identity of Larissa) and had also pointed out the initiative taken by the Association of Architects of the city. The publicity that was given (also by the local press) at the very last moment, caused the immediate intervention of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Minister of Culture, Mrs. Linas Mendonis, which resulted in the suspension of the demolition on August 19.

This house is a particularly picturesque single-family house with a garden, next to the continuously operating Tlupa photography studio, which continues its activity with the photographer’s daughter, Vania Tlupa. A photographer herself, she owns her father’s archive.

After the mobilization on behalf of the YPPO, an autopsy was ordered, which was carried out by a team of the New Monuments and Technical Works service of Thessaly and Central Sterea Greece. The service’s report is awaited with interest. The content of the report will be examined by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the minister will order the next steps.

The Tloupa house belongs to a private person, the son of Avgi Tloupa, sister of Takis and Filolaos. There has been no irregularity or illegal act. Everything has progressed smoothly. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, after weighing the facts, will examine the possibilities provided by the legislation and will act accordingly, with a view to the protection of the cultural heritage on the one hand and the protection of the rights of the owner of the house deriving from the specific asset on the other.

An ideal development would be the creation of a visitor space that will illuminate Tloupa’s contribution to Larissa, in collaboration with his legal heirs and the manager of the Tloupa Archive, Vania Tloupa. Larissa, a city that is at a very interesting turning point with the emergence of the Ancient Theater and the upgrading of its identity and its urban footprint, has an absolute need to establish important cultural attitudes. The character of the city must be strengthened. And the name “Tloupas” is part, not only of the local but also of the national heritage.
