Suspicion: soldiers cooperated with the suspects in stealing the weapons from the base in the north

by time news

The investigating military police involved in the investigation of the theft of the weapons from the IDF base in the north arrested a number of soldiers suspected of being involved in the theft. It is suspected that the same soldiers cooperated with the suspects arrested by the investigators of the police’s Northern Division. The IDF is not ready to expand on the issue.

As a reminder, last night the police arrested a number of young residents of Tuba-Zangaria in their 20s and 30s, on suspicion of having committed the massive theft from the IDF’s pine tree base in the Golan Heights. This morning (Sunday) the detention of six suspects was extended until next Tuesday.

The IDF assesses that this is a break-in and theft with the thieves using information and the apparent cooperation of insiders, namely soldiers serving at the same base. The commander of the Northern Command, Major General Uri Gordin, directed the establishment of an expert committee to investigate the circumstances of the break-in at the IDF base in the Golan Heights. The committee will be chaired by the commander of the 4th Brigade, Lt. Col. Miki Sharvit. The committee will investigate and check all the factors and failures that made possible the incident of the theft of the ammunition from Camp Znovar, and the findings of the investigation will be presented to the commander of the command within about a month.

From a preliminary investigation that began following an inspection, it emerged that in the inventory count carried out on Saturday night, it was found that 70,000 5.56 rounds were missing and were not found in the bunkers where they were supposed to be, as well as 70 high-explosive grenades. The IDF cast a shadow over the investigation and its findings, but an IDF spokesman said: “Military ammunition was stolen from an IDF base in the north of the country. The circumstances of the theft are being investigated by the investigating military police, and upon completion of the investigation, the findings will be forwarded to the military attorney’s office for consideration.”
