Adrien Quatennens is retiring from his duties. Suspected of domestic violence against his wife, the coordinator of La France insoumise, announced this Sunday, in a press release, his withdrawal from his function, “to protect the movement, its activists and all those who matter a lot to [lui] ».

In a long message published this Sunday on Twitter, the MP explains that he made the “difficult and costly choice to express himself in complete transparency on the situation in the hope” of “finding the path of appeasement in [sa] family and in public opinion. The chosen one explains that he is in the process of divorce, a situation from which he says he “suffers”. “Many French people experience it and we may not be equal in our ability to accept it,” he says.

Then, the deputy returns to certain altercations he may have had with his companion, in a “context of extreme tension and mutual aggressiveness”.

“It doesn’t look like me”

“Since this separation announcement, we have had arguments. In one of them, (…) I grabbed her wrist. In our last argument, probably the one that justified his choice to file a handrail, I took his cell phone. Wanting to get it back, she jumped on my back. I pulled away, and letting go, she hit her elbow, ”he describes.

The chosen one still reports having “slapped” his wife, in another altercation dating from a year ago. “I gave it away when it didn’t look like me and it never happened again. I deeply regretted this gesture and I then apologized a lot, ”he defends.

“I know that no explanation, however harsh and that no context, however complex the situation, justifies these behaviors”, adds Adrien Quatennens who ensures that he is “naturally at the disposal” of justice and “ reserves for him any additional details on the context” which he refuses to make public.

A judicial investigation was recently opened for suspicion of “violence by spouse” by the parquet floor of Lille (North), after a handrail filed by the wife of the deputy La France insoumise, Adrien Quatennens.
