Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Sufmi Dasco Ahmad delivered a statement to reporters regarding the revision of the Regional Election Law at the Parliament complex, Jakarta, Thursday (22/8). Dasco stated that the ratification of the revised Regional Election Law was canceled and when registering regional head candidates in the Regional Election on 27 August 2024, what will apply is the Constitutional Court’s judicial review decision which granted the lawsuit of the Labor Party and the Gelora Party. jpnn.com – The People’s Alliance of All Indonesian Student Executive Boards (BEM SI) does not fully believe that the Indonesian House of Representatives will cancel the discussion of the Pilkada Bill before it is in black and white.

Coordinator of the BEM SI Rakyat Alliance Satria N said that the statement made by Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives Sufmi Dasco was just empty talk before there was an official letter from the Indonesian House of Representatives Legislation Body or the issuance of the PKPU as a follow-up to the Constitutional Court’s decision Number 60/PUU-XXII/2024 and Number 70/PUU-XXII/2024.

“Because, we have similar memories when in 2019 and 2020, we were lied to by the DPR with the sudden ratification (of the Law) which was carried out at night by the Indonesian DPR,” said Satria as quoted from a press release, Saturday (24/8).

According to Satria, there is no guarantee that a similar incident will not occur at this time. Therefore, as part of the state institution, the DPR RI Baleg must immediately issue a letter.

“Issue a letter of cancellation of the plan to ratify the revision of the Pilkada Law and the KPU must immediately issue a PKPU as a follow-up to the Constitutional Court’s decision,” he said.

BEM SI sees the Constitutional Court’s decision as a hope for the sustainability of democracy in Indonesia. Because, if this decision is ignored by the Indonesian House of Representatives, the government, and the Indonesian General Elections Commission in the 2024 Pilkada, there is the potential for more than 150 regions to have elections against empty boxes or independent candidates who are ‘puppets’ of power.

“This is a bad situation for Indonesian democracy. Because, we will be faced with a situation where there is no choice in the upcoming regional elections if this decision is ignored,” he said.

BEM SI Kerakyatan suspects that the statement by Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Sufmi Dasco Ahmad regarding the cancellation of the Pilkada Bill is just empty talk. Asks the House of Representatives Baleg to issue a letter.
