Sustainable development: Libreville Airport (ADL) committed to reducing waste

DIG/ Aware of the risk that the presence and production of waste can generate in the airport area, those responsible for Libreville Airport (ADL) have informed the public about the approach implemented to deal with it.

Thus, Libreville Airport launched, on November 24, 2023, “Waste reduction days”.

It was aboutan awareness workshop to present the extent of the risks that the proliferation of waste can generate within the airport area and the solutions to be provided to remedy them.

These operations were led by Mr. Fakher ABDELKEFI, Head of Supervision and Pierra ASSENGONE Épse OWONO ASSA, Head of Social Environment and Governance.

The Director General of ADL, Igor SIMARD, educated his colleagues on collective responsibility towards the environment.

“As a company, we have a duty to rethink our practices in order to minimize our impact on the planet”he indicated.

An opportunity for him also to reiterate that reducing the environmental footprint requires tangible actions within the company.

“Together we can be agents of change. Let us commit to working together to implement concrete actions to reduce waste within the airport. It is our responsibility towards future generations and our contribution to the preservation of our planet”insisted Mr Simard.

The course being set, he announced that the day of December 1, 2023 will mark the launch of project activities “ Zero waste in the mangrove ».

In concrete terms, it will be cleaning the mangroves around Libreville Airport, in collaboration with the NGO, LA LIANE.

According to Libreville Airport, reducing waste is a common objective, everyone’s business.

In order to reduce the impact of these discharges on the airport, the airport authority recommends the establishment of a special system consisting of prevention, control and rehabilitation measures for impacted sites.

It will be like this, a policy consisting of improving the management of said waste, by encouraging feedback.
