SUV Crashes into Horse-Drawn Buggy, Two Children Killed in Southern Minnesota

Fillmore County, MN – Tragedy struck in southern Minnesota on Monday morning when an SUV collided with a two-wheeled horse-drawn Amish buggy, resulting in the deaths of two children and injuries to two others. The incident occurred on County Road 1 in Fillmore County, according to Sheriff John DeGeorge.

The buggy and the SUV were traveling in the same direction when the crash occurred just before 8:25 a.m. The four children in the buggy, all siblings from rural Stewartville, were involved in the collision. Wilma Miller, 7, and Irma Miller, 11, tragically lost their lives as a result of the crash. Alan Miller, 9, and Rose Miller, 13, were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment of their injuries.

Sheriff DeGeorge, in a news release, stated that the conditions of the injured children were not immediately known. The investigation into the crash is currently ongoing, and no arrests have been made at this time.

This incident marks at least the second fatal crash involving children in an Amish buggy in the United States in the past week. Just days prior, on September 20th, two children aged 1 and 3 were killed when a pickup truck rear-ended an Amish buggy in Alexandria, New York.

The tragic events have brought attention to the importance of road safety and the need for drivers to be aware of horse-drawn buggies on the roads, especially in rural areas where the Amish community resides. Authorities and local communities are now urging drivers to exercise caution and drive responsibly to prevent such devastating accidents from occurring in the future.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Miller family and all those affected by these heartbreaking incidents.
