Suzana Jovanović Faces Criticism After Skipping Uncle’s Funeral

Singer Suzana Jovanović did not attend the funeral of her uncle, who died two weeks ago in her native village of Ralja. Local residents have expressed disapproval over her absence, noting that the performer has not visited the village in years, even as she recently spoke of finding personal solace in faith.

Family Loss and Local Criticism in Ralja

The death of Suzana Jovanović’s uncle two weeks ago has brought renewed attention to the singer’s relationship with her hometown of Ralja. Reports from neighbors suggest a significant distance between the performer and the village. Residents who spoke to the media highlighted that Jovanović has been absent from the area for years, and her decision to skip the funeral service sparked vocal criticism among those who still reside there.

I haven't seen Suzana here in the village for years, an unidentified local resident told Telegraf.

The sentiment among some villagers remains pointed, with one neighbor suggesting that her absence was a breach of familial duty. I don’t get into their family relationships, but what she did is a sin. He was still a close relative, the resident stated, emphasizing that despite any private family history, the funeral was an occasion that warranted her presence.

Family Home Remains Abandoned Since Mother Died

The lack of physical presence in Ralja is linked to the state of the singer’s childhood home. According to reports, the property has remained entirely abandoned since 2021, the year her mother passed away. Following that loss, her father was relocated to Belgrade, further severing the singer’s day-to-day ties to the village property.

In the wake of recent personal challenges—including the death of her husband, Saša Popović—Jovanović has spoken publicly about a transition toward spirituality. She has credited her current well-being to her faith and the guidance of priest Predrag Popović.

After everything I have endured, everything I have survived, I can tell you that I am doing well now, Suzana Jovanović told Telegraf.

During the conversation, Jovanović expressed her gratitude to the priest, stating, Thanks to dear God and your words, and noting that he provided the necessary contribution when things were at their worst.

Public Reflections on Wealth and Relationships

Beyond her spiritual journey, the singer has used public platforms to discuss her personal history and views on material success. In a guest appearance on the show “Magazin IN” with host Sanja Marinković, Jovanović spoke openly about the criteria for an ideal partner and the nature of male-female relationships. During this time, she also discussed her first husband, with whom she has a son named Danijel, revealing for the first time that he had been unfaithful to her.

Reflecting on her life with the late Saša Popović, she discussed his life and the assets they acquired together. However, she noted the realization that material wealth is unable to assist a person when they are confronted with the most difficult trials of life.

While the singer has been open about her spiritual path and the support she has received, she has not publicly addressed the specific comments made by neighbors regarding her absence from her uncle’s funeral. The situation leaves an unresolved tension between her public narrative of finding peace and the local perception of her family obligations in Ralja.
