Suzanne Shepherd, best known for portraying the mothers of key female characters in the iconic movies “Goodfellas” and “The Sopranos,” passed away on Friday at the age of 89.

Born on Oct. 31, 1934, Shepherd also had roles in several other movies including “Mystic Pizza,” “Uncle Buck,” “Requiem for a Dream,” and “A Dirty Shame.” She also made guest appearances on popular TV shows such as “Ed,” “Law & Order,” and “Blue Bloods.”

Tom Titone, an actor and real estate agent, paid tribute to Shepherd on Facebook, remembering her as a mentor and the officiant to his marriage. He described her as a “huge presence” with a “BIG personality” who roared with life and at it.

Shepherd is survived by her daughter, the artist Kate Shepherd; her son-in-law, Miles; daughter-in-law Joyce; and granddaughter Isabelle. According to The Sun, a shiva will be held Monday and Tuesday.

Ray Abruzzo, who played Little Carmine Lupertazzi in “The Sopranos,” also expressed his sadness at Shepherd’s passing, describing her as a “force of nature” and an actress and teacher.

Suzanne Shepherd’s impact on the entertainment industry, as well as her influence as a mentor and teacher, will be remembered and cherished by many in the industry.
