Beloved Actress Suzanne Somers Dies at Age 76
Actress Suzanne Somers, best known for her roles on the popular sitcoms “Three’s Company” and “Step by Step,” has passed away at the age of 76. Somers died peacefully at her home in the early morning hours of October 15th, just one day before her 77th birthday. Her death was confirmed by her longtime publicist, R. Couri Hay.
Somers had been battling an aggressive form of breast cancer for over 23 years. Despite her health struggles, she remained resilient and surrounded by her loving family until the end. Somers’ husband Alan, her son Bruce, and her immediate family were by her side during her final moments.
In a statement released on behalf of the actress’ family, Hay expressed their gratitude for the support and love from Somers’ millions of fans and followers. The family had been planning to celebrate her 77th birthday on October 16th, but instead, they will now be celebrating her extraordinary life.
According to Hay, Somers had fulfilled one of her dreams by spending her final moments in a beautiful house. She had been actively engaged in her career and personal life up until the end, with plans and dreams for the future. Her family, including her step-children and grandchildren who were involved in her business, were a central part of her life.
A private family burial will take place this week, followed by a memorial service in November to honor and remember Somers.
Prior to her birthday, Somers had expressed her excitement about spending the special day with her loved ones. She intended to celebrate with her husband Alan, their three children Leslie, Stephen, and Bruce, as well as their six grandchildren.
Her husband, Alan Hamel, spoke about Somers’ amazing determination and commitment, even after being together for over five decades. He admired her resilience and the strength she showed throughout their marriage and her battle with cancer.
Somers had previously shared her breast cancer journey with her fans and had publicly announced that her cancer had returned in July. She fought the disease using alternative and conventional treatments and described herself as a fighter ready to face any challenge. In her heartfelt Instagram post, she expressed gratitude for her husband and family’s support and the love and support from her fans.
In addition to her iconic roles on “Three’s Company” and “Step by Step,” Somers also starred as Sheriff Hildy Granger on the show “She’s the Sheriff.” She was also a successful author, having penned over 25 books, many of which became best-sellers. Somers was also known for her health and beauty business ventures, particularly the ThighMaster exercise equipment.
Somers is survived by her husband Alan Hamel, her son Bruce, her stepchildren Stephen and Leslie, and her six grandchildren. She leaves behind a tremendous legacy in the entertainment industry and will be remembered for her talent, resilience, and entrepreneurial spirit.
