The former national striker dedicated a heartfelt farewell to him along with an unprecedented photo on his social networks.
At 76, the legendary Swedish coach Sven-Göran Erikssondied this Monday after battling a long and difficult illness.
Earlier this year, the former technical director was diagnosed with end-stage pancreatic cancer“At best, I have a year left. At worst, a little less,” he said in an interview at the time with public broadcaster Swedish Radio.
Today, seven months after that, his family announced his death through a statement.
“After a long illness, SGE (Sven-Göran Eriksson) passed away this morning at his home surrounded by family. The closest mourners are his daughter Lina; his son Johan with his wife Amana and granddaughter Sky; his girlfriend Yanisette with her son Alcides; his brother Lars-Erik with his wife Jumnong. The family asks that their wish to mourn privately and not be contacted be respected,” they said.
Sven Eriksson’s career
Over the past year, Eriksson has stepped down from his role as sporting director of the Swedish club Karlstadciting health problems.
His long career began in the late 1970s in Sweden, where he quickly stood out for his results.
