A pair of silver coins dating back almost 2,000 years to the time of the Roman Empire have been discovered on Gotska Sandön, with experts calling the find highly unusual. Two Roman denarii were unearthed in March at Säludden during excavations, leading to speculation they may have come from a shipwreck. Säludden is believed to have been a fishing village from the Middle Ages up until the 17th century, with earlier finds at the site including iron tools and ceramics.
