A total of 13 people, including seven on ultra-right S records, were arrested on Saturday evening in Paris for swastika tags on the ground in the 17th arrondissement of the capital, AFP learned from a police source. Information confirmed this Sunday noon to Le Parisien by the Paris prosecutor’s office. These people were arrested in flagrante delicto in the Wagram district, not far from the Arc de Triomphe.

The police custody of these 13 ultra-right activists must be extended after the first 24 hours so that investigations can continue. New hearings are planned as well as the exploitation of the contents of the suspects’ mobile phones.

A context of anti-Semitism and mobilization of the ultra-right

“The investigation, entrusted to the 17th arrondissement police station, is being carried out into charges of damage or deterioration of the property of others committed due to race, ethnicity, nation or religion and public provocation to hatred, violence or racial discrimination,” specifies the Paris prosecutor’s office.

At the beginning of November, the capital – and certain nearby towns – saw nearly 200 stencilled Stars of David appear on its walls which would have been commissioned to Moldovan nationals by one of their pro-Russian compatriots. He saw this action as support for the Jewish community.

These new events occurring in the 17th arrondissement are part of a context of a sharp rise in anti-Semitism in France with, since the Hamas attacks perpetrated in Israel on October 7, more than 1,500 anti-Semitic acts recorded. These taggers were also rampant while the ultra-right also mobilized around the death of Thomas in Crépol (Drôme). This Saturday, while the Parisian police officers arrested these taggers, other members of this movement gathered at the same time in Romans-sur-Isère (Drôme) to do battle with residents of the Monnaie district where some of them come from. those involved in this tragedy. During this gathering, the police took 17 people into custody.
