The Madurai branch of the High Court has directed Swathi, who became a false witness in the Gokulraj murder case, to appear before the court on Friday.

Gokulraj, an engineering student from Omalur in Salem district, was murdered in 2015 after allegedly falling in love with a girl from a different community. 10 persons including Yuvraj filed appeals in the Madurai branch of the High Court seeking suspension of their life sentences in this case.

During the hearing in this regard, the judges said that they wanted to re-examine Swathi as a witness to satisfy the conscience of the judiciary. They mentioned that this is a mandatory requirement and it seems that failure of the judiciary will lead to failure.

Further, the judges pointed out that the lower court had dismissed Swathi’s testimony without taking it seriously, and said that the appellate court could not strike a balance between error and error like saints.

Therefore, Swathi, who became a false witness in the Gokulraj murder case, was ordered to appear in court on Friday. The judges also directed the Namakkal District Superintendent of Police to take appropriate measures to provide adequate security to Swathi and her family.
