/ The Swedish Immigration Court approved the decision to deport “Salwan Momika”, who burned copies of the Holy Quran more than once in the capital, Stockholm, last year.

According to Swedish Radio, the Migration Court rejected the appeal submitted by the Iraqi Mumika and approved the Migration Agency’s decision to deport him from the country.

The court stated that Momika had provided false information regarding his residence permit application and therefore upheld his deportation decision.

On June 28, Momika burned a copy of the Holy Quran under police protection, followed by similar incidents later, sparking anger in the Arab and Islamic world.

This turned into a series of protests, the most violent of which was in Baghdad, where protesters set fire to the Swedish embassy building, and several countries summoned Sweden’s envoys to inform them of official protests.

On June 26, the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on the Swedish authorities to hand over Salwan Momika, saying at the time, “The person who insulted the Holy Quran is an Iraqi national, so we demand that the Swedish authorities hand him over to the Iraqi government to be tried in accordance with Iraqi law.”

After another Quran burning in July, Iraq ordered the expulsion of the Swedish ambassador to Baghdad and suspended the license of Swedish telecom giant Ericsson in the country.

Sweden has recently witnessed repeated incidents of insulting copies of the Qur’an in front of mosques and embassies of Islamic countries, which sparked widespread anger in the Islamic world and prompted some capitals to summon Swedish diplomats to register an official objection.
