Sweden will find it difficult to meet the target of recruiting 250 troops and other personnel to NATO forces, the country’s Defense Minister Poul Johnson said in an interview with the Neue Zürcher Zeitung newspaper, Day.Az reports with reference to TASS.

“We have to provide NATO’s joint command with about 250 troops and other personnel. But it is a very difficult task for us to recruit enough personnel,” he said. The minister added that as a country that recently joined NATO, Sweden is trying to join the alliance’s defense planning process. However, recently “NATO has been going through its biggest changes since the end of the Cold War,” which also complicates the task for Stockholm.

NATO currently has 32 countries. Sweden joined the alliance on March 7, 2024, and on March 11, its national flag was raised in front of NATO headquarters in Brussels. As Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated earlier, by joining NATO, Sweden is showing more aggressive ambitions in the international arena.
