Forssell, who until now has been minister for foreign trade and international development, took over from Maria Malmer Stenergard as migration minister on Tuesday.

Malmer Stenergard has taken over from foreign minister Tobias Billström, who announced his decision to resign earlier this week.

“After two years as foreign trade minister, I’m still bringing perspective with me when it comes to highly skilled worker migration,” Forssell told a press conference after the announcement.

“We should be very proud of Swedish companies that are world leaders, and it is important for both us and our country’s competitiveness that we are attractive to talent, researchers, investors and people who work in occupations experiencing a shortage of jobs.”

“That’s something I hope to develop further,” Forssell added.

Forssell was chief of staff or chief of staff for former Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt between 2006 and 2010 and is seen as having a bright future in politics.

He is the spokesman for justice for the party in the run-up to the 2022 election. Therefore, when he was appointed to a junior position as minister for foreign trade and international development when the new government was elected in October of that year, he was seen as like a rebel

The promotion to immigration minister in this government is definitely a step.

“As everyone knows, this is one of this government’s most central areas of domestic policy,” said Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson. “Johan has twelve years of experience in the parliament, and among other things has been the president of the judicial committee, which works with the actual issues.”
