Swedish Housing Company Installs Camera Surveillance to Tackle Garbage Sorting Issues

by time news

Residents in a housing company in Svalöv, southern Sweden, can finally breathe a sigh of relief as their general waste room problems may soon be a thing of the past. Frustration had been mounting due to the unpleasant smell and the failure of some neighbors to dispose of their garbage correctly. In response to the ongoing issue, the housing company took a drastic step by installing surveillance cameras in the waste rooms.

Despite the company’s initial attempts to address the problem by putting up informative signs and reminders about proper waste disposal, it became clear that these measures were ineffective. The situation deteriorated to the point where the company’s staff had to manually sort the bins on a regular basis just to ensure that the cleaning company could collect the garbage.

With no other viable alternatives in sight, the company made the decision to invest in camera surveillance. The hefty price tag for this solution amounted to SEK 70,000 per garbage room, totaling almost half a million kroner for the seven waste rooms in the housing complex. However, the company believes that the cost is justified when considering the benefits that both tenants and landlords will enjoy.

Anette Lassnack, the manager at Svalövsbostäder, explained the rationale behind this decision. “Several times a week our staff had to stand and sort the bins so that the cleaning company would even empty them,” she said. The installation of surveillance cameras aims to solve this ongoing issue and create a more hygienic and convenient living environment for all residents.

The housing company’s CEO, Mikael Jonsson, expressed his belief that the investment is a wise move. “It is a lot of money, but it is worth it for the landlords and tenants. We can now allocate the money that was previously spent on cleaning up the mess to other important areas,” Jonsson stated.

The hope is that the camera surveillance will deter tenants from improperly disposing of their waste, resulting in cleaner and better-maintained waste rooms. With the implementation of these measures, Svalövsbostäder expects to see a significant improvement in waste management practices.
