The conclusions, as the scientists write, require further research for two reasons above all: the link between erythritol and events such as heart attacks and strokes does not demonstrate a cause-and-effect relationship and the use of sweeteners is often recommended for people suffering from obesity, diabetes or metabolic syndrome and, therefore, also more high risk of adverse cardiovascular events.
