Swiggy and Somato, which have made their mark in the food delivery space, have been charging platform fees until now. In this, they are planning to charge up to 10 rupees as platform fee on Swiggy from February 1.
Swiggy, which threw in offers when it was newly introduced in the market, could not cope with the competition over time and started charging platform fees. To put it simply, an additional 2 rupees as site fee was initially charged for any order placed. This is still happening only for some users. Recently, Swiggy has been charging Rs 5 for this from a few customers. Similarly, rival company Somato also charges site fees.
In this situation, it has been reported that Zwiggy is planning to increase the platform fee from 5 rupees to 10 rupees, and to deal with the increasing losses, it has been reported that Swiggy has embarked on this initiative. To expand the business, Swiggy is planning to do an initial public offering in the stock markets. Before that, it has been reported that this tariff increase is to reduce the debts.

Some customers have also expressed apprehension that Somato has already started charging platform fees of up to Rs 9 per order at a time when Swiggy is planning to hike the one-page fee.
It is said that many customers did not like Somato’s platform fee of up to Rs 9 when orders piled up every day before the New Year, and some customers ignored it and paid the money.
As food delivery companies keep raising prices at will, at some point people will start hating food delivery apps, say experts.
