Swiggy today announced the launch of Swiggy UPI service on its platform. The company has integrated the National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI) UPI Plugin to provide a better payment experience to its customers.

With this integration, users can now complete UPI transactions without leaving the Swiggy app. This has made the payment process easier. Users now have to go through just one step instead of five.

This new feature, powered by Juspay’s Hyper UPI Plugin, eliminates the need for redirects to third-party UPI apps, making the payment experience completely seamless for users.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said in April 2024 that India has recorded about 131 billion UPI transactions. As the popularity of UPI continues to grow, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) is encouraging more and more entities to integrate UPI services.

This move by Swiggy is designed to reduce transaction times and increase efficiency. By eliminating redirections to third-party apps, Swiggy UPI offers a simple and pleasant user experience. This reduces the transaction time from 15 seconds to just 5 seconds.

Anurag Panganamamula, Revenue and Growth Head, Swiggy, said, ‘We are very happy to introduce UPI service to our customers. UPI is one of the most preferred payment options. In such a situation, this option is in line with Swiggy’s mission to provide better convenience to consumers. By simplifying transactions and reducing payment failure, we believe that this facility will improve the consumer experience on Swiggy.’

How to set up Swiggy UPI

Customers can complete a one-time setup process to link their bank account by visiting the app’s payments page and selecting Swiggy UPI. After this setup, for every transaction, they will only need to enter their UPI PIN, making transactions faster.

Additionally, the in-house plug-in experience will instantly notify customers of any issues in the payment journey such as insufficient funds, incorrect credentials, or technical issues, allowing them to make decisions and successfully complete their payments.
