The most famous chip brand in Switzerland has decided to “strengthen its image with the public,” and here’s why.

Starting this September, the well-known Swiss chip brand Zweifel Pomy-Chips AG will adopt a new name: Zweifel Chips & Snacks AG. Let’s admit that the company’s full name was little known to the general public. “Pomy” is an abbreviation of the German word “Pommes,” a nickname invented by Hans Heinrich Zweifel, the company’s founder, which was integrated into the trade name in 1958. So why change today?

It is for “strategic” reasons, the company assures, that the word is disappearing. The family business has, in fact, transformed over the years. The firm now sees itself – and especially due to its recent acquisitions – as a full-fledged snacking giant.

“We offer a full range of snacks to enjoy 24/7, which means we have the right snack for any occasion. Whether it’s a VAYA waffle for an afternoon snack, the Coquin Berger for dessert after lunch, or Zweifel chips for an appetizer.”

The shift towards snacks is also illustrated by the construction of a new factory in Spreitenbach (in Aargau), a 40 million franc investment whose work is already underway. The factory is expected to be operational by the summer of 2027.

The new snack factory, costing 40 million francs, also represents the brand's realignment. Construction work has now begun.

It is also worth noting that the company, which has always been in the same family for over 65 years and employs 500 people, is doing quite well. In 2023, it set a new record for gross sales with 301 million, a growth of 13.2 million compared to the previous year. (jah)
