Odermatt’s 33rd World Cup victory

Marco Odermatt was on the podium a little more often in his career. The Nidwalden series winner wins his 33rd World Cup race in Garmisch and thus equalizes Bode Miller. As an athlete, you don’t really get over such milestones, says the 26-year-old. “It’s definitely a cool story. As an athlete you don’t pay much attention to things like that, but after your career it’s certainly nice.”

Odermatt, who had complained about the piste conditions on Saturday, dedicated his victory on Sunday in a way to the piste workers in Garmisch. «I wasn’t sure whether the snow could become good and compact overnight. But on the inspection you noticed from the first goal that it was tough. There was great work going on here in Garmisch. Thanks to this clear night, we had a completely different race today.”

After his recent triumph, Odermatt is looking forward to the final races in the Super-G and is satisfied with his points tally in the discipline so far. “It’s obviously great if you can go into the final races with a lead.” In addition to Odermatt and von Allmen, 25-year-old Arnaud Boisset also made it into the top 10. After his exploit on Saturday, Loic Meillard missed out on a good placement and ended up in 19th place.
