by time news

Bern, 21.08.2024 – The Federal Council approved the election of André Wyss to the Board of Directors of SBB in its meeting on August 21, 2024. Wyss is to be elected as a member of the Board of Directors at SBB’s general assembly in April 2025 and will take over the presidency from Monika Ribar in 2026.

André Wyss (1967) is Swiss and lives in Bottmingen (BL). He has been the CEO of the internationally active Swiss construction and real estate service provider Implenia since 2018. Additionally, Wyss is a board member of Ina Invest AG and a member of the shareholder council of E. Merck KG. He also serves as the president of the “Statistical Economic Society Basel” and is the designated president of the “Friends of the Baloise Session”.

André Wyss completed a business degree at the Higher School of Economics and Administration after his training as a chemical technician and furthered his education at Harvard Business School. Before moving to Implenia, Wyss worked in the executive management of Novartis, where he most recently led global production and all central services with around 40,000 employees and gained extensive international experience. Wyss was also a major and commander in the Swiss Army. He has a profound understanding of the political and economic framework conditions in Switzerland, thus bringing all the necessary qualifications for his new role at SBB.

Election Process and Succession
The general assembly elects the members of the Board of Directors of SBB AG and the presidency for a duration of two years. As the sole shareholder of SBB, the Federal Government exercises the powers of the general assembly. The current board member Véronique Gigon will resign from her mandate at the 2025 general assembly. SBB Board Chair Monika Ribar will step down from her position at the 2026 general assembly due to the twelve-year term limit.

To ensure a seamless succession of Monika Ribar, a search process was conducted early on by the Federal Government, which identified André Wyss as the suitable candidate. The Board of Directors of SBB decided at its extraordinary meeting on August 12, 2024, to propose the election of André Wyss to the Federal Council.

He will conclude his activities at Implenia by the end of March 2025. Wyss will be elected as a member of the Board of Directors at SBB’s ordinary general assembly in April 2025 and is expected to take over the presidency in 2026. For one year, he will work alongside Monika Ribar on the board and prepare for taking over the presidency.
