PV Sindhu and Kashyap advanced to the quarterfinals after winning the 2nd round of the Swiss Open badminton tournament but were defeated by another Indian star Saina Nehwal.

The Swiss Open Badminton Tournament is being held in Basel. In the men’s singles second round match, Kashyap of India was to face number one and Olympic champion Victor Axelsen (Denmark). But last time Axelsen withdrew from the tournament due to ill health. Thus Kashyap entered the quarterfinals without a match.

In another match, India’s Pranoy advanced to the quarterfinals, beating Finland’s Kale Koljonen 19-21, 21-13, 21-19. Pranav will clash with teammate Kashyap in the quarterfinals to be held tomorrow.

In the women’s singles, PV Sindhu of India clashed with Neslihan Ikit of Turkey in the second round. In the 42nd minute of the match, Sindh defeated Neslihan 21-19, 21-14 to advance to the final.

In the second round of the doubles, India’s Chadwick Sairaj Rangi Reddy and Chirac Shetty lost 19-21, 20-22 to Indonesia’s Pramudya Kusumavardhana-Jeremiah Eric Rambidan.

PV Sindhu, next, will face either Denmark’s unseeded line Christopherson or fifth-ranked Michelle Lee of Canada. Although Saina Nehwal won the first game, she failed to play well in the next two.

In the absence of Lakshya Sen, India’s highest-ranked man in the men’s singles, Kidambi Srikanth, defeated world number 60 Cristo Bobo of France 13-21, 23-25, 21-11 in 73 minutes.
