Lightning can strike the same place multiple times. A police officer and a helicopter pilot were hit on Friday in Switzerland when they came to assist two people who were themselves injured by lightning, Swiss authorities said.
A 51-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy were struck by lightning around 8:30 a.m. French time, while working in a field in Menieres, in the canton of Friborg (West), the regional police said in a press release.
Two other people hit by lightning
According to the police, the two members of the emergency services were injured, but the oldest man seriously. They were taken care of by paramedics and a helicopter from the Swiss emergency services (Rega), before being transported to hospital.
During the intervention, a policeman and the pilot of the helicopter were also struck by lightning, police said. “Fortunately, they were not injured and were able to be taken care of on the spot by the ambulance staff,” she assured. The incident comes after a 27-year-old woman from the same region of Switzerland was seriously injured by lightning, reports the Keystone-ATS news agency.
