Swiss Ambassador to Dhaka Reto Siegfried Rengli has promised full cooperation to return illegal money kept by Bangladeshi citizens in Swiss banks in accordance with international standards and procedures.

During the discussion, Foreign Affairs Adviser Touhid Hossain sought the cooperation of the Swiss authorities in identifying and recovering the illegal assets of certain Bangladeshis in Swiss banks.
Citing the recent student-led mass uprising as a surprise, the Swiss ambassador termed the change as an opportunity for comprehensive reforms in Bangladesh and assured the Swiss government’s support in the reform process.
The foreign adviser highlighted the important decisions of the interim government to form several commissions for this purpose.
Both sides welcomed Bangladesh’s accession to the United Nations Anti-Disappearance Convention and agreed to work together to further promote human rights programmes.
The ambassador described Bangladesh as a market with unprecedented potential in terms of trade and investment and emphasized the need for greater involvement of the private sector and creation of a level playing field to attract new Swiss investment.
Mentioning the immense potential of Bangladeshi youth especially in ICT, the Foreign Adviser sought Swiss assistance in harnessing the full potential of productivity and economic growth through entrepreneurship and job creation.
The ambassador expressed the interest of the Swiss side in this regard.
Both sides discussed the Rohingya issue and agreed that the only solution to the crisis is to repatriate the displaced people in Myanmar with safety, security and rights.
The Swiss ambassador assured more humanitarian assistance to the Rohingyas as well as the local population of Cox’s Bazar.
The Swiss Ambassador handed over the original congratulatory message from the Swiss Federal Councilor to the Foreign Counsellor.
