jpnn.com – JAKARTA – Director of the Sabang Merauke Circle Study Institute, Syahganda Nainggolan, highlighted the statement by Indonesian DPR member Dolfie Othniel that Prabowo Subianto’s government could postpone the VAT tax increase or make adjustments of between 5-15 percent if deemed necessary.
Syahganda assessed that the PDI-P politician’s statement could trigger political instability.
“Such statements clearly provoke the people, as if the Prabowo government does not hear the aspirations of the people,” said Syahganda in his statement, Monday (23/12).
According to Syahganda, the 2025 APBN framework was passed by the DPR RI last September, which included projections for tax revenues including the VAT component.
“At the time of preparing the 2025 APBN and drafting the 2021 Tax Regulations Harmonization Law, PDIP was the main motor, where PDIP was the ruling party and chairman of Bangar in the DPR,” he said.
Syahganda said the government led by Prabowo Subianto had only been in power for two months. Of course it would be a hassle if you had to change two existing rules. Namely the APBN Law and the HPP Law.
“Changes to the law will take time and need approval from the DPR. The mitigation carried out by the government at this time can actually be seen from Prabowo’s efforts to provide a strict classification for the 12 percent VAT increase, specifically only aimed at luxury goods that are not in direct contact with basic needs. he said.
Syahanda assessed that if the people continue to be provoked, there is a possibility that political instability will occur. Because the issue of increasing taxes is one of the triggers for people’s anger.
Syahganda Nainggolan said that DPR member Dolfie Othniel’s statement regarding VAT could trigger political instability.
