Is Paris burning? Yes. It’s New Year’s Eve every day at the Galeries Lafayette of living together! In Nanterre, which I cross by motorcycle to reach Paris, floats the acrid smell of charred asphalt. The trash cans are still smoking. The sun is already hot. An image in mind: the Indian plain at daybreak (but in the Indo-Gangetic dawn, the hundreds of small hearths are the fires lit by the villagers to destroy the garbage).
