by times news cr

Days after an earthquake struck the country, the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center reported that “an earthquake measuring 5.2 degrees struck Syria today, Friday.”

The Syrian National Earthquake Center announced that “seismic monitoring stations recorded the earthquake at 1:15 PM, and its epicenter was 23 kilometers east of the city of Hama,” noting that “weak to moderate tremors are continuing to be recorded.”

The Syrian National Earthquake Center stated, “The earthquake, which was felt by residents of the governorates of Damascus, Homs, Aleppo, Tartous and Latakia, occurred 4 kilometers west of the city of Salamiyah in the center of the country, and its intensity, according to the initial analysis, was 5.2 degrees on the Richter scale.”

In the context, 17 people were slightly injured and panicked due to an earthquake centered west of the city of Salamiyah in the eastern Hama countryside in Syria.

Salamiyah National Hospital Director Osama Melhem told SANA, “12 people were taken to the hospital with injuries and bruises as a result of their stampede and falling to the ground while rushing out of their homes.”

He added: “Five others were treated for panic and nervous breakdowns as a result of the earthquake, and the injured were provided with first aid and necessary treatment.”

The region has been witnessing continuous seismic activity for a few days, affecting cities in Syria and Turkey, without witnessing a devastating earthquake as happened in February of last year 2023. A few days ago, a 5.5-magnitude earthquake struck central Syria.
