A government delegation in the countryside of Daraa, southern Syria, was attacked with an explosive device, amid reports of injuries..
A source in the Daraa Police Command told SANA, “The convoy of the Governor of Daraa, the Secretary of the Arab Socialist Baath Party branch in the province, and the accompanying delegation were attacked with an explosive device by gunmen while the convoy was returning from a work tour in the eastern countryside of the province.”
According to the circulated information, “the government delegation was attacked with an explosive device and machine gun fire, while returning from a work tour to open a hospital in the countryside of the governorate, at the railway junction near the town of Alma in the eastern countryside of the governorate, and a number of minor injuries occurred.”
Head of the National Reconciliation Committee in Daraa, Hussein Al-Rifai, told Sham FM Radio: “Six police officers were injured when an explosive device planted by gunmen exploded while a government delegation, including the governor of Daraa, was passing by at a railway intersection in the village of #Alma, near the Daraa-Damascus highway.”
He added: “There were gunmen near the edges of the road, about 100 metres away, and they fired bursts of bullets, and the police and escort elements responded to them. The delegation was in a service, political and social meeting with citizens in the city of Al-Harak and its villages.”
