14 civilians were killed in an Israeli missile attack targeting a number of sites in Syria, around the city of Masyaf in the Hama countryside.، In addition to Tartous and Homs governorates.
A military source told SANA: “At around 20:23 pm on 9/8/2024, the Israeli enemy launched an air aggression from the direction of northwest Lebanon, targeting a number of military sites in the central region. Our air defense systems confronted the aggression’s missiles and shot down some of them. The aggression led to the martyrdom of three people, the injury of fifteen others, and material losses.”
The director of the National Hospital in Masyaf stated that “the number of martyrs as a result of the Israeli aggression on several sites around Masyaf has risen to 14 martyrs and 43 wounded, 6 of whom are in critical condition.”
The director of the National Hospital in Masyaf, Dr. Faisal Haidar, told the official Syrian news agency SANA that “the Israeli aggression led to the martyrdom of 5 civilians and the injury of 19 others, some of whom are in critical condition.”
Hama Governor Maan Abboud visited the injured in Masyaf National Hospital, checked on their health, and directed the mobilization of ambulance, medical, and nursing staff to provide services to them.
The Israeli aggression also caused damage to the Masyaf-Wadi Al-Uyun highway and a fire broke out in the Hair Abbas area, which firefighting teams are working to control.
SANA also announced that its photographer, Azzam Al-Omar, was injured while covering the Israeli bombing of several locations around Masyaf, and he was transferred to the National Hospital in Masyaf.
In the context, the Syrian radio station “Sham FM” reported that “the Israeli bombing targeted sites in the western Hama countryside, on the “Masyaf-Wadi Al-Oyoun Road” axis.”
Civil sources in the city of Hama confirmed to the Syrian newspaper “Al-Watan” that “the attack was huge, and the sound of explosions was heard in the cities of Hama and Salamiyah.”
Sputnik Agency also published footage showing the moment an Israeli missile fell on the vicinity of the Scientific Research Center in the Al-Zawi area, near the Jili Masyaf-Wadi Al-Uyun road.
Sputnik pointed out that “significant damage was inflicted on civilian property and the electrical network on the Masyaf-Wadi al-Uyun road,” noting that 22 people were injured during the Israeli bombing.
Explosions were also heard in the skies of Homs and Tartous, and Syrian media published pictures of fragments of Israeli missiles that were intercepted in the sky, as they fell in the Al-Majd suburb of Tartous.
It is noteworthy that on Friday, August 23, the Syrian Ministry of Defense announced that 7 civilians were injured as a result of Israeli air strikes on a number of areas in the central region of Syria.
Syria had previously warned against repeated Israeli attacks on its territory, noting that this could lead to an escalation of violence in the region that would be difficult to control.
