Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, “Ankara is communicating with the new Syrian administration to determine the names of the people who will run the country during the coming period.”
He added: “We have begun our contacts with Ahmed Al-Sharaa, and the Syrians are the ones who will decide their future, and it is not possible to accept Israel’s occupation of Syrian areas. The West has a great responsibility to prevent Israeli steps in Syria.”
Erdogan continued: “Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will go to Damascus and the structure of the new administration in Syria will be put together, and we will fully assist the new administration in Damascus. The Turkish Foreign Ministry is now constantly communicating with its counterparts in Damascus, and we will assist the new administration in Syria.”
He added: “The region will live in completely different conditions than it was before, and we will double the volume of our trade relations with Syria and Iraq.”
Erdogan continued: “Lifting the siege and restrictions imposed on Syria due to the Assad regime will be beneficial for its recovery, and there is a major problem in Syria in the availability of electricity and fuel, and we will work to solve this problem and all the problems that Syria faces,” adding: “The reconstruction of Syrian cities is important to heal the wounds, and must Solve the housing issue so that Syrian refugees can voluntarily return to their country.”
US Central Command announces the killing of ISIS leader during a precise strike in Syria
Today, Friday, the US Central Command announced that Abu Youssef, the leader of the ISIS terrorist organization, known as “Mahmoud,” was killed in an air strike in Deir ez-Zor Governorate in Syria.
The US command said in a statement: “On December 19, US Central Command forces carried out a precise air strike targeting ISIS leader Abu Youssef, known as Mahmoud, in Deir ez-Zor Governorate, Syria, killing two ISIS members, including Abu Youssef.”
She added: “This air strike is part of US Central Command’s ongoing commitment, along with partners in the region, to disrupt and deteriorate terrorist efforts to plan, organize, and execute attacks against civilians and military personnel from the United States, our allies, and partners throughout the region and beyond.”
She noted that “this strike was carried out in an area that was previously under the control of the Syrian regime.”
The statement concluded, “The United States – working with allies and partners in the region – will not allow ISIS to exploit the current situation in Syria and reshape itself. ISIS has the intention of freeing more than 8,000 ISIS operatives currently detained in facilities in Syria.”
“We will aggressively target these leaders and activists, including those who attempt to carry out operations outside Syria,” said General Michael Eric Kurella, commander of US Central Command.
