For the third day in a row, the Military Operations Department of the new Syrian administration launched a security sweep campaign in Homs Governorate, targeting many Homs neighborhoods. The campaign also extended to include many eastern villages of Homs Governorate, “Al-Musharrafah, Makhram Al-Fawqani, and Al-Tahtani.”
Local sources from within Homs Governorate confirmed in statements to Sputnik that “many violations were recorded by armed elements “whose affiliation to no one was proven,” as inappropriate actions were imposed on those who were arrested, such as “barking and making animal noises.” “Severe beatings and verbal insults to former compulsory conscripts in the Syrian Arab Army.”
According to the sources, “the forces known to be affiliated with Public Security enter homes with respect, search and leave, and it appears that they have a list of the names of those wanted, as not all homes have been searched. On the other hand, there are other elements, some of which may actually be affiliated with the Authority, but most of them are masked.” She does not wear a uniform. She enters neighborhoods and shoots heavily early in the morning, in order to wake up residents. She enters homes and searches randomly. Cases of breaking and vandalism inside homes have been recorded.
The sources noted that “the interruption of the home Internet, and the cessation of shops from operating for two days, caused great human suffering to the people,” noting that “the Internet is available via mobile data with very poor coverage.”
According to the sources, “These combing operations resulted in the arrest of about 150 people, including security leaders and officials in central prisons, and they were taken to unknown destinations, which led to families demanding that the fate of those who were taken be revealed.”
The sources concluded to “Sputnik” by stressing that “the combing of the Al-Zahraa neighborhood has been completed, and all weapons and ammunition present in the neighborhood have been confiscated.”
The people of Homs, through numerous calls for help on social media, appealed to the leader of the new Syrian administration, “Ahmed Al-Sharaa,” to stop the violations of the militants who claim to be affiliated with the Authority, stressing that they stand by the new administration and demand that it control security as soon as possible.
