The Saudi capital wrapped up the “Joy Awards 2026” ceremony as part of the “riyadh season” on Saturday evening,bringing together stars from drama,cinema,music,sports,and content creation. Winners were persistent by public vote,according to organizers. The event wasn’t just about glittering gowns and acceptance speeches; it quickly became a talking point, especially after Lebanese artist Fadel Shaker received two awards despite ongoing legal issues.

Shaker was named “Favorite Artist” and “Best Song” for “Your Eyes.” His wins immediately ignited social media debate, with many questioning the appropriateness of honoring an individual facing legal challenges. Organizers have yet to issue a statement addressing the controversy.

Television and Cinema Stars shine

Syrian actress Karis Bashar was named “Favorite Actress” for her role in “Al-Safaa,” while Saudi actor Abdul Mohsen Al-Nimr earned “Favorite Actor” for “The Inheritance.” Kadwani was named “Favorite Actor” for “Fiha Eh Ya Yaani,” and Kuwaiti actress Shajoun earned “Favorite Actress” for “The Wedding of Fire.” Egyptian director Omar Al-Muhandis took home “Favorite Film Directing” for “Siko Siko.”

Sports and Influencers Honored

Moroccan goalkeeper Yassin Bono was awarded “Best Athlete,” while Saudi football player Laila Al-Qahtani also received the “Best athlete” award. Qatari Nasser Al-Khelaifi was presented with the “Diamond Entertainment Makers Award.” Saudi influencers Rayan Al-Ahmari and Rateel Al-Shehri were both named “favorite Influencer.”

A Nostalgic Tribute to Syrian Drama

One of the most striking moments of the evening was a dedicated exhibition and performance honoring Syrian drama. The segment, presented as a show of support for Syrian art, featured iconic scenes from beloved series like “Mirrors,” “The Return of Ghawar,” “Al-Zeer Salem,” “Bab Al-Hara,” “Rabih Cordoba,” and “Jamil and Hana.” The presentation blended theatrical performance with original footage, evoking a strong sense of nostalgia.

What made Syrian drama so impactful? The series resonated deeply with Arab audiences, reflecting their lives and cultural experiences, and continue to be cherished for their storytelling and performances.

The Syrian “Inana” band, under the direction of Jihad Mufleh, contributed to the tribute with various performances, including participation from graduates of the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts.

Lifetime Achievements and Special Recognition

The night also included honorary awards. Artist and former Egyptian Minister of Culture Farouk Hosni and American star Forest Whitaker received “Lifetime Achievement Awards.” Saudi Saleh Al-Arrayed was honored with the “Honorary Joy Awards,” while Asala Nasri received the “Honorary Entertainment Makers Award” alongside Kuwaiti director Ahmed Al-Dougji and Egyptian composer Amr Mostafa. British actress Millie Bobby Brown was named “Person of the Year.”
